In an exciting clean sweep, the volley-bears defeated Houston Christian’s Lady Mustangs in the first round of playoffs last Saturday. After a five hour bus ride, a relaxing lunch at Jason’s Deli, and multiple rounds of Catch Phrase, the team confidently took care of business. Though three of the 13 players were unable to attend, the Bears pulled through and demonstrated excellent teamwork.
The players and Coach Delay agree that this team has great chemistry. From decorating posters and making cookies for their secret buddies to telling jokes on and off the court, the players have grown very close.
Although the Bears are off to a great start in playoffs, their season has had it up’s and down’s. In the first round of district, the Bears dominated and won five of their seven matches. However, they had a rough second round of district, winning only three of their seven matches. After sorting out mid-season problems, the Bears finished off district play 11-6, a fourth place finish.
The team eagerly looks forward to playing their big rival, Bishop Lynch, in this Saturday’s game in Salado. While some players plan to dress up for this Halloween game, the team agrees that they are pumped and ready to play their hearts out in this Quarter-final game. With the drive, skill, and heart that this team has, this important game should be an intense match.
