Friday night lights came to an end  November 6th as the senior football players, cheerleaders, Rangerettes, color guard, and band members participated in their last Jesuit football game.

Jesuit’s senior game is the last home game of every season, a time when special recognition is given to the senior participants. This year was especially memorable for both the audience and participants because it was the last football game played in the current Jesuit stadium.

This summer Jesuit will begin construction on a new stadium hoping to accommodate the growing number of students, athletes and fans.

Before the game began, the names of  senior football players were announced while  they walked onto the field with their proud parents. Their pictures were taken as they posed in between the lines of Rangerettes and the players  received yellow roses from the cheerleaders for their mothers.

It was both an exciting and sad moment for the players. For many of them, it was the last football game they would ever play in.

“I’m going to miss knowing that there is an entire school community young and old behind you and cheering you on,” said Mario B. ‘10.

The game began with a three point field goal by James H. ’11, putting Jesuit in the lead against Plano Senior High.  By half time, Plano was up 21 to 3, but Jesuit still had hope of coming back in the third quarter.

At half time, the Jesuit Ursuline Ranger Band lightened the mood by playing a song from Star Trek as the color guard performed along with them.

During the half time performance the Rangerette seniors were announced with their parents before they performed their half time routine to “All That Jazz.”

“The most memorable part of senior night for me was the last prayer circle before our halftime show,” said Captain Brittany C. ’10.

After half time, Matthew B. ’10 scored a touch down,  making the score 21 to 12 with the extra point.

As third quarter came to an end, the cheerleaders were announced and received roses from Mr. Earsing, the Principal of Jesuit.

“It is sad to think that that this is the last time we will ever get to experience the excitement from the crowd and the fun of being part of Friday nights,” said Emily Z. ‘10.

The game ended in a Jesuit loss,  and teary-eyed athletes made their way onto the field for their last team huddle. Coach Wunderlick consoled the team by saying how proud he was of their season and all the time and hard work they devoted to the team this year.

Although the Rangers did not beat their opponents, the Plano Senior High Panthers, the night will remain unforgettable to those seniors who devoted their high school careers to supporting Jesuit football.
