Community service at Ursuline Academy kicked off mid- October with the Seniors’ departure to their various locations within the DFW metroplex.
The class of 2010 set off for their service locations which they will visit every Monday morning, on Oct. 19. The girls will not only be providing their particular service location with help and assistance, but also with a bit of the Ursuline spirit and love.
Claire R. is volunteering at a local elementary school.
“From what I have witnessed already, these kids really need someone to have fun with, someone to listen to them, and someone to just relax with,” she said.
Whether it is assisting a nurse, teaching children, or laughing with the women at the nursing home, the students will be providing smiles once a week until their service completion in March.
Past Ursuline graduates agree that Senior Service made an impact on them; and that once five months had passed; they wished it would not end.
“It was hard at times to witness some of the things going on in the hospital, but, by the end of my time there, I had learned so much and I felt that it was so much harder to leave those new friends then I had imagined.” Jane S. ’09 said when remembering her days as a volunteer at Parkland Hospital.
All agree that Monday mornings start their week off on the right foot. Each service opportunity is a chance in itself to provide two hours of care and support to at least one person in need.
