What Ursuline Students Would do as President of the Unites States

By Rebecca Leclair ’28

It’s a normal Tuesday afternoon at Ursuline when suddenly, breaking news flashes across the TV: the President and the Vice President of the United States have gone missing! The whole country is wondering who will step in. But wait, who’s that walking toward the White House? It’s a group of Ursuline students, who’ve just been named the temporary Presidents of the United States. The Oval Office is filled with Ursuline students ready to use their skills to help run the country. People everywhere are wondering how a group of high school students can take on such a big responsibility. But with their creativity, problem-solving skills, and commitment to fairness, these Ursuline students are ready to prove that great ideas can come from anyone.

Imagine a country being led by girls who want to make positive changes. What seems impossible at first becomes the best way to fix problems and help people. One of the first issues they want to help is gas prices.

“If I was president, I would lower gas prices,” says Anjali Bagchi, a freshman at Ursuline. High gas prices affect everyone, and Anjali’s idea would make life easier for people struggling to afford transportation. But her ideas don’t stop there. “I want to help people not be poor and give them resources,” she adds, emphasizing how she wants to create a more fair world where everyone has the resources they need.

Improving schools is another big thing for these leaders. “If I was president, I would work to make public education better,” shares Hannah Guideng, another freshman. Better education means better futures for everyone. This plan shows that investing in schools can help solve many of the country’s challenges, from poverty to unemployment.

The students also want to help solve climate change; an issue they know will help the future. “If I was president, I would try to decrease climate change,” said Haven Lozano. Ranging from wildfires to hurricanes, climate change is already affecting millions of lives. Haven’s wanting to protect the planet shows how much she and our generation care about leaving a better world for the future.

Health care is another big problem. “I would make health care more affordable,” said Ella Bergkvist, another freshman. “A lot of people can’t afford the medical care they need” she added. Ella’s idea to find a way to lower healthcare costs would help millions of families worry less about bills and focus more on staying healthy.

These students are young, but their ideas are good and full of hope for our future. They know that being a leader isn’t about being the older or having the most experience, it’s about caring for others and having the courage to make changes. Their plans focus on solving real problems, like helping families in affording gas, improving schools, decreasing climate change, and making health care affordable. This shows that even high school students can have good ideas about how to make the world better.

While everyone watches, these Ursuline students prove that leadership is about having a goal, caring about others, and being brave enough to take action. From lowering gas prices to fighting climate change, they show how the next generation is ready to face the world’s biggest challenges. Their creativity and determination give everyone hope for a brighter future. If we find women like these girls to lead the country, then the future will be better, fairer, and full of new possibilities.
