As a high school student in today’s digital world, it may have crossed your mind that you could create your own website. Maybe you have a love for photography or fashion, and you really want to make a blog, but you do not know where to start. It all seems like a confusing hassle of HTMLs, fees, and coding. The answer to your struggle is free website builders.
While free website platforms have limitations, they still allow anybody to easily create their own functioning, beautifully-designed website. And once you have created your website, you could later take it to the next level by using different paying plans that website builders offer. Besides, as a high schooler, using a free plan is sufficient enough for you to create a decent website. Professionals are the individuals that need to invest in the creation of their websites.
The drag and drop feature of many website platforms will make your website development much simpler. Drag and drop allows you to create your website without writing a thousand lines of HTML code. With drag and drop, you will see your layout and be able to easily arrange different elements such as text boxes and images to edit.
Another feature you will want to have is SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. SEO affects the visibility of your web page once someone searches on a search engine. It is important to have SEO support because you want people to visit your site.
One of the most popular free website builders is Wix, which was founded in 2006. Its features include drag and drop, pre-designed templates, a large selection of images, mobile function, Google analytics, secure hosting, SEO, and 24/7 support. With Wix, you can create a blog, online portfolio, business website, or even a resume.
Bella Protacio ’20 and Sophia Tran ’20 use Wix to share their videography and photography. “Wix is clean and appealing to my personal aesthetic,” said Protacio.
Jimdo is a web hosting service that was founded in 2007. The platform also includes many beautiful templates that you can edit to add your own touch. Jimdo has drag and drop, free backups, unlimited storage, domain registration, mobile function, SEO tools, photo galleries, and an ad-free framework. You can even set up e-stores with it.
Founded in 2006, Weebly is another free website builder that includes drag and drop and SEO support. Weebly is especially good for eCommerce and marketing, and is also one of the most versatile platforms as it can be used with any device. Other features include domain registration, unlimited bandwidth, designs, an ad-free framework, and free backup. “Weebly is easy to use for people with no advanced technological skills,” recommended Grace Risinger ’20, who uses the platform for her joint fashion blog with Angelina Velis, ’20.
In this day and age, even a high school student can reach many people through the World Wide Web. Now that you know which website platform to use, go and share your creative content or products with the world.
